"Featured Dubs" is an ongoing project in which artists from other labels are prominently featured on Whimsical Music with either own musical creations or remix cooperations. 8 episodes of this series form 1 season. At the end of a season might or might not come an album compiling all the episodes into one release.
The fourth episode of the first season leads us waaaaay back in the days, to the late 90s. Die Pilzen was a German rap crew operating during the late 90s with two official albums on Deck 8 label, one self-released album (2001) and a couple of compilation features. Rapper Nickel at some point quit, while Maxwell Smart joined forces with DJ Robert Smith as Smith & Smart. They are still active.
The original song "Heia Walpurgisnacht" is from Die Pilzen's 1997 debut album "Gegenwarten... und andere Situationen". Dub Rogue started a remix in early 1998, back then still under the name Dieb in Dub. For many reasons, this remix never got finished, and got postponed again and again and again... It was never forgotten though and finally, in 2023, 25 years in the making, it's ready. It's been kept as original as possible, albeit it came a long way since 1998. Actually, not even the tempo of the song is the same anymore. It's crazy to think that no acapella version of this song exists, and still, there is a remix with the vocal now. Modern technology... On a sidenote, Dub Rogue is still able to rap along this song all those years later. The lyrics have been cemented in his brain, apparently.
Music critic L. Huger from Helsinki: "Dub Rogue is back with another whimsical boom tune."

Whimsical Music is a netlabel for quirky electronic music without boundaries, with a slight emphasis on leftfield dubby styles. No constraints, just free music for free people. We like to remix other people's work we love, and show them our appreciation through our works. Our releases are usually structured in series, like on TV. 8 episodes of a season make an album. Remixes, one-takes, songs with all kinds of samples come together for an open-minded, free-spirited experience. Whimsical Music is non-profit. It's just for fun and to give our respect to other people. Our songs are often tributes and fan service for things we like. Some Whimsical Music releases are not official releases and are not available on any streaming platform or physical media, only homemade videos on YouTube, Bandcamp (for free) and our own website. Please let us know if you feel like there is something here that shouldn't be, e.g. a sample or a video clip.
