"Ireland Dubs" is an ongoing project in which the Whimsical posse pays tribute to one of our favourite music genres: Irish folk music. 8 episodes of this series form 1 season. At the end of a season might or might not come an album compiling all the episodes into one release.

In the first episode of the first season, Johnny Ireland introduces us to one of the most beautiful melodies ever imagined: "Miss MacDermott", composed by an Irish harpist called Turlough O’Carolan around the year 1725. The origin of the song is quite interesting. You can read about it here. We used the G major version instead of the Ab major one. We also left out an "a" to save in printing ink costs.

Johnny was first introduced to this song by a live recording of the "Irish Folk Festival", back in the days, performed by Clannad. In their version, Miss McDermott is a Mrs. though. She probably got married some time between 1725 and 1972. That's why in our version, we claim her a Ms, because that includes both options. We're very considerate people at Whimsical Music.
Overall, we want to say how amazing it is that someone in 1725 composed this incredible melody. It must have rocked back then like a hardstyle hymn on a rave festival in the Netherlands in 2024. We hope that our version does the original melody justice.
